Thailand is a beautiful country, the gem of South East Asia and one of the most popular tourist spots around. The country is home to some areas of outstanding natural beauty, as well as the magnificent cultural appeal of the Thai people, their way of life and the monuments that have been built over the ages. Whilst there has been trouble in recent times, the country still remains one of the best tourist destinations around, and popularity of the nation has not been dented by these troubles. Whilst not a common choice for potential off plan investors, the potential of the buy-to-let market alone should convince most doubters, with the legions of backpackers entering the country every day providing more than enough reason to at least look into the possibility of investment. Bangkok is already heavily populated, and the property market in the city is a pricey one as a result – compared to the rest of the country, at least. Prices range from budget flats – which are often squalid little hovels – from around the £30,000 mark up to luxury penthouses flowing over into the millions. Those looking for a bargain are sure to find prices approaching that somewhere, but the quality of the property itself is something that needs to be checked in great detail. Elsewhere in the country are lower prices, though other regions are less popular with tourists, meaning the buy-to-let potential is reduced. Nevertheless, those wanting a true bargain are likely to have to look off the beaten track for something that appeals. The fall of the Thai economy at the end of the 90s has since stabilised, and the economy has been on the up ever since. Though things are recovering, property prices are still relatively low and are raising slowly – this means now is an ideal time for a potential off plan investor to put their money into the country. Whilst short term returns won’t be high, the potential for a long term investment is very high indeed, and coupled with the potential returns on a buy-to-let property, Thai investment could prove very lucrative indeed. Obviously none of this is guaranteed, but if trends continue as they are doing, The Land of Smiles could be a fantastic opportunity, with friendly people, wonderful food and stunning landscapes.
