Thailand is one of the most popular tourist spots in South East Asia and is a mainstay of the backpacker’s travels, with millions of them passing through each year. The country is just as popular with ‘regular’ holidaymakers though, and many resorts and luxury hotels are available for stays in the country. Whilst there have been security problems in recent times, Thailand remains a stable country to visit, and the attractions on offer throughout cement the country’s place as one of the gems in the Asian crown. Bangkok is the social and commercial capital of the country (as well as being the actual capital, handily) and sees by far the most visitors pass through each year. The city never fails to excite those who experience it, with the shabby looks are completely overshadowed by the huge amounts of attractions: things to do, places to go and the rest of it. One visit to the city simply wouldn’t be enough to take in the wonderful Thai culture, with attractions like the Grand Palace, the Temple of the Reclining Buddah (as well as hundreds of other temples scattered throughout the city), the Chao Phraya River, the National Museum, the Floating Market and the city stone of Lak Muang. Along with the cultural and architectural delights are any number of clubs, bars and restaurants, and the nightlife in the city is far more tourist-friendly than common misconception would have people believe – there are still enough nightspots of ill repute for those so inclined, however. Elsewhere in the country comes more than enough to keep those bored of Bangkok occupied, with the second largest city of Chiang Mai offering some wonderful temple views and elephant excursions into the surrounding countryside, along with the nearby Doi Inthanon National Park. Across the many other provinces of Thailand come countless other attractions, from the Central Plains and its many excursions, through the Gulf of Bangkok and its beautiful, though rather overdeveloped, beach resorts and on to regions like Ko Phangan, something of a haven for those looking for somewhere undeveloped. Obviously these are just a few examples of the many, many places there are to visit in the country, and Thailand is a country that keeps on giving to those that are willing to put in the time. Thailand is still one of the most exciting destinations in the world today, and whilst many areas are becoming overdeveloped and touristy, taking away from the authenticity, anyone who travels a bit off the beaten track can still easily see genuine Thai life and culture. Recent troubles in the country have done little to upset the flow of visitors to the country, and Thailand looks to hold on strong to its Most Popular in South East Asia crown for years to come.
